“Fiori,” a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle was recently released back into the Atlantic Ocean after being rehabilitated from pneumonia, gas within the gastrointestinal tract, and a recreational fishing hook embedded in its mouth. Fiori is equipped with a satellite-linked tag used to track movements, habitat use, and seasonality of the species in the Chesapeake Bay and coastal Virginia waters as part of a research project with the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. This is the last tag being deployed for this project that has been ongoing for the past few years. A final report will be available in early 2019. For more information on our sea turtle tagging and tracking work see the project profile.
