Marine Species Monitoring

Fantastic field session for the Kaua'i field project!

Posted on March 10, 2025

Cascadia Research Collective recently completed a 9-day field session off Kaua'i focused on deploying satellite-linked telemetry tags on various species of odontocetes prior to a Submarine Commander Course (SCC) training event. Overall the team covered more than 1,100km of trackline, observed 11 different species (fin, humpback, pilot, melon-headed, pygmy killer, false killer, Blainville’s beaked whales, bottlenose, spinner, and rough-toothed dolphins, and Kogia sp.), and deployed 11 tags. You can read a daily summary and see some fantastic pictures on Hawaiian Cetacean Studies project page - February 2025 Kaua'i
