Our annual technical progress review meeting for monitoring projects in the Atlantic took place March 10-11, 2014 in Virginia Beach, VA with over 40 attendees from the Navy, scientific community, and NMFS Office or Protected Resources. The meeting is an opportunity for scientists to provide an update on their progress and present preliminary data and results, as well as discuss future work and priorities with Navy program managers. All current monitoring projects funded by US Fleet Forces Command in the Atlantic were represented including visual surveys, biopsy sampling and photo identification, tagging multiple species of marine mammals, sea turtles, and fish, and passive acoustic monitoring projects. By all accounts the meeting was a complete success and served as an important component of the adaptive management review process that is incorporated in the the Navy's monitoring program to continually assess priorities, progress, and future investments. Individual presentations from the meeting are linked directly through the agenda below.
